We’re pleased to announce a free upgrade to the hugely popular BigOven iPhone App.
170,000+ Recipes – BigOven is now available in the iTunes Store.
This new upgrade offers:
- Simpler, more beautiful interface
- Easy access to the BigOven Leftover Wizard – simply enter 3 ingredients in your fridge or pantry, and find out what you can make!
- “What’s for Dinner?” – find out what people around the world are making for dinner. This is very handy if you’re stuck for ideas tonight.
- BigOven will now remember where you left off (e.g., if you receive a phonecall in the middle of viewing a recipe.)
- As before, you also get free access to our 1,000+ Entry BigOven Food Glossary, with great buying, storage and substitution tips on ingredients, plus easy access to your BigOven Favorites and BigOven Try Soon Queue.
The BigOven iPhone App has been tremendously popular – it’s been downloaded more than 2 million times in the first year of availability. (Since Apple recently announced 2 billion downloads in the App Store, this makes BigOven about 1 out of every 1,000 or so downloads for the iTunes Store overall.)
Give it a try today!

Hi Russ,
Thanks for your comment!
Creating a free account on BigOven.com is entirely optional.
You can still browse 170,000 recipes for free, find up ways to use Leftovers, etc. Signing up for free is *not* mandatory, and you can still get a lot of value out of the app if you choose not to enter your email and password to create an account.
However, to save Favorites or Try Soons (or soon, to post a comment on our servers from the iPhone, or do a bunch of things on the website) you *do* need to create a free account.
Regarding your suggestion to hook into Apple's username/password system, unfortunately Apple hasn't yet provided any way for developers to do that. That's a great suggestion for them, since I agree, remembering multiple usernames and passwords is a hassle. (In fact, I was a chief proponent of Microsoft trying to solve this multiple-passwords-on-the-net problem starting way back in 1995, but to little avail.)
We don’t spam -- see our Privacy Policy at http://www.bigoven.com/privacy.aspx -- we don’t sell or give away your email – we simply want to make sure that those who DO spam on the site are more reliably removed immediately, and for that, we need their email address.
Signing up for a free account is optional, and it works *exactly* the same as the first version of the app did.
But if you choose not to do so, we completely understand!
Thanks for taking the time.
